Been on a WA adventure lately? Tell us about it!

There’s a problem in the adventure community: too many stories, not enough mates to listen. That’s where we come in, helping you get the word out about your deliciously exciting, mind-blowing journey in the great outdoors.

Whether your writing needs some work or you think you could do a better job than Thoreau, your words will find a place with us. Yes, we want exceptional stories—but you don’t need to be penning the great Australian novel for your submission to be considered.

Just read our guidelines and you’ll be right.

What to write

“Get me outdoors!” That’s what we want our readers to think after getting to the epic outro of your journey in Western Australia.

So, before submitting your work, please read and follow the guidelines below:

What we’re looking for

  • Adventure-focused articles: Destination guides, how-tos, gear reviews, outdoor tips, safety advice or unique stories from the wild.
  • Western Australia-centric content is preferred, but we welcome broader Australian or global adventure pieces if they’re truly epic.
  • Original content only – We do not accept republished or AI-generated articles.
  • Affiliate-friendly structure – Gear lists, product roundups, and reviews are welcome, as long as they’re honest, helpful and based on real use.

Tone + style

  • Approachable, knowledgeable and inspiring – Imagine you’re writing to a curious but slightly underprepared mate.
  • Avoid hype, clichés and fluff – Respect the reader’s time. Be concise, specific and practical.
  • Australian English – Use “colour,” “tyre,” “kilometres,” etc.
  • Keep it clean – No swearing, politics or divisive commentary.
  • First-person is great for trip reports or personal stories.

Structure & formatting

  • Word count: Most articles should be 800–2,500 words.
  • Use H2 and H3 subheadings to break up content logically.
  • Intro paragraph: Hook the reader and set expectations.
  • Scannable formatting: Bullet points, short paragraph  and numbered lists where helpful.
  • Add external sources or stats when making factual claims.
  • Include a short author bio (2–3 sentences) with a link to your site or socials (if desired).

Gear + affiliate content

  • All product mentions must be relevant and genuinely useful to the activity or destination.
  • Only recommend products you’ve used or thoroughly researched.
  • Include the full product name, why it’s useful and any pros/cons you noticed.
  • No salesy language (“best ever!!!”) – Be trustworthy, not pushy.
  • We may add or adjust affiliate links for monetisation purposes.

Images

  • We’d love at least 3–5 high-quality images per article.
    • Must be your own or clearly credited and licensed for reuse (e.g., Creative Commons with attribution).
  • Images should be landscape orientation and at least 1200px wide.
  • Add descriptive filenames and suggest image captions.

What we don’t accept

  • AI-generated or spun content
  • Lazily written, inaccurate or off-topic articles
  • Unattributed copied content (plagiarism = instant rejection)
  • Purely promotional posts or thin affiliate bait
  • Articles about illegal activities or unsafe practices

How to submit

  1. Email your draft to basecamp[at]allexplorers.com as a Google Doc or Word file.
  2. Include your bio, headshot (optional) and any relevant image attachments or links.
  3. If you’re pitching first, send a 1–2 paragraph outline or a few headline ideas.
  4. We aim to reply within 7–10 business days.

Rights & edits

  • By submitting, you agree that:
    • We may edit your content for clarity, SEO, formatting or tone.
    • We may add affiliate links where appropriate.
    • Once published, the content belongs to us (unless otherwise agreed in writing).
  • You will be fully credited, and we encourage DoFollow links to your website, portfolio or socials.
